Theme 1: Technology and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing
1） Basic Research (new mechanisms): To carry out basic scientific research of satellite oceanography for new mechanisms and new algorithms of satellite ocean remote sensing;2） Technique Breakthrough (new technology): To develop autonomous satellite data processing and remote sensing monitoring technology and provide technical support for the development of new marine satellite series in China.3） Application Promotion (new application): To develop new technologies and thematic applications of remote sensing applications for national needs and operational services, and to provide application system with independent intellectual property rights for real-time monitoring of marine environment and integrated applications.
Theme 2: Ocean Dynamic Processes and Ecosystems
1）Stereoscopic observations of marine environment:Stereoscopic observation and technical study of key environmental factors, key processes and ecological events, such as circulation, fronts, thermocline, water mass, vortex, primary production, nutrient salt and hypoxia 2）Ocean Key Processes and Mechanism Study: The exchange flux and multi-scale processes and key mechanisms of important marine interfaces (rivers - offshore, water - bottom, shelf - offshore, ocean - atmosphere, etc). 3) Comprehensive study on Dynamics of Marine Ecosystem: The coupling and regulation mechanism of the physical-chemical-biological ocean process and its resource and environmental effects; Development China's coastal and peripheral ocean numerical model of fine-grained ecosystem dynamics to improve the ecological environment structure and the integrated forecasting ability of the change of function.
Theme 3: Ocean Circulation and Climate Change
1）Multi-scale tropical ocean-atmosphere interactions: Observing, analyzing, diagnosing and forecasting multi-scale tropical ocean-atmosphere variations, including high-impact events such as tropical cyclone, intraseasonal variability, El Niño-Southern Oscillation.2）Data assimilation and predictability: Data assimilation technique, parameter evaluation in oceanic and coupled GCM, initialization scheme for forecast models, and predictability of ocean environment and short-term climate variability.3）Western boundary current in North Pacific: Variability of the Kuroshio current and Ryukyu Current , and their impacts on the Yellow Sea, East China Sea and South China Sea.
